Therapeutic Approaches
Journey Growth Hope practice is founded on the principals of Person Centred Therapy understanding my clients through empathy, genuineness and without judgement. I ensure I provide evidence based therapeutic interventions to support every client on their journey toward healing and growth.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
CBT requires a safe therapeutic relationship with trust and rapport. The process involves setting client focused goals within a collaborative participatory process between the client and therapist.
The purpose is to support clients to modify their negative thinking patterns, supporting you to evaluate your thoughts and assumptions.
Goals are set, homework/worksheets are provided (self-guided) with a short term focus.
Mindfulness & Mindfulness CBT
Founded on the principles of cognitive therapy, mindfulness uses tools and strategies such as meditation to bring you to a place of moment-by-moment awareness.
Being present with your feelings, thoughts and body sensations in a safe gently nurturing environment.
Mindfulness CBT combines the skills of mindfulness with the cognitive aspect of CBT to process and adapt the maladaptive belief patterns.
This is a 4 step process including, exposure, interpersonal, empathic and skillsets.
Person Centred Therapeutic Approach
Person Centred Therapy has 3 core elements
Empathy: understanding the clients feelings in the 'here and now' being present
Congruence: the counsellor is authentic, genuine, attuned with client
Unconditional positive regard: counsellor is non-judgemental.
Person Centred believes 'talk' therapy supports clients to connect with the 'self' through sharing, acceptance and understanding supported by strategies for change.
Recognising we all have the capacity for self-healing and personal growth.
Trauma Informed Therapy
Trauma informed therapy acknowledges the impact that trauma can have in an individual’s life, recognizing a person can suffer from fear, anxiety, flashbacks and alarming memories.
There is no right or wrong way to 'Feel" when you have experienced a trauma. Trauma can be a single or ongoing event which can cause physical or emotional harm
Interventions are tailored to meet the specific needs of the clients ensuring:
· emotional and physical safety
· awareness of the emotional and behavioural impacts of the trauma.
Grief and Loss Therapy
Loss can be experienced when we lose someone we love or care about.
We can also experience loss through breakup/divorce, losing our home or job or losing what we expect or hope for such as for those experiencing infertility.
When there is a loss, we experience grief which often causes emotional and/or physical pain.
Grief and loss therapy provides a space to share your feelings, to process though the loss and find ways to cope and heal.
Somatic Therapy Approach
The Somatic approach recognises the experiences and connection of the mind and body. Somatic therapy works within the therapeutic relationship to understand you emotional and physical well-being.
The technique then works to release the tension/stress within you through techniques;
-
Breathing exercise
-
Meditation
-
Varying forms of body movement
Supporting clients to recognise how we experience emotions within our bodies.
Vision
My hope is for each person to find their ‘True Self’ through self-understanding/acceptance/forgiveness and emotional healing.
That you go on a journey where you are safe to let go of what ‘holds you’, being vulnerable and compassionate with yourself while you love and accept yourself.
